M is for Measurable

Today’s goal setting letter is M for Measurable

 Yesterday we discussed specific, as in if you want to sit with no interruptions watching the Olympics, you might want to remember one very important “W” question. Where! I hadn’t wanted the Children’s ER, but because I wasn’t specific enough, lo and behold, the universe had a laugh.

 And so I sat and watched TV with a limp child in my arms. I can write this calmly because I understand measurability.  This was actually my daughter’s second concussion so lucky (??) for us we could measure her current response against the last time. We figured she had a mild concussion but not as bad as the last one (and as it turned out, because they have now changed the criteria for measuring concussions, turns out she really didn’t). And yes we had the paediatric neurosurgeon look at her and all is fine.

 So you’ve been specific on your goal, plan, intention, and now you want to figure out if you made it. So…

 Measurable - Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal you set. When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal.

To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as……How much? How many? How will I know when it is accomplished?

How much weight do you want to lose? How much money will make you rich?
