When the law of attraction doesn’t work…

We know the basic premise of the law of attraction. What you think about you bring about, right? So if you spend time and energy really focused on something you tend to make it bigger – think mountains out of molehills sort of thing. Usually we counsel people to change their focus to improve their life. Simple but powerful. You want more happiness? Focus on being happy rather than the fact that you aren’t happy. But what about when you are extremely clear on what you want, when you want, and you are taking the necessary steps towards getting what you want, and…zip, nothing, nada. No go, nothing doing. What’s up with that?

Last summer, we wanted to move our shed. It was a large shed but in excellent condition, simply in the wrong place in our yard. We wanted to garden more, grow our own food, and the shed was smack in the sunniest spot in the yard. So we prepped a different location, got it all ready with the sand and quarter down, levelled the corner stones. And could not find anyone willing to do the job. We wanted to pay money to do this and no one would do it. I was quite frustrated. Even more so when this spring came and we still had the job to do before we could move on.

However, we decided this spring that a fence was a must. We wanted the privacy and the chain link one was in terrible condition and had to go. We realized that it would actually be easier to get the fence put in and then move the shed. So in the end, it was actually good the shed didn’t get moved.

But, we phoned half a dozen fence companies and it was like pulling teeth just to get the estimate, not to mention impossible to get anyone to come back and start the job. Seriously! Do not believe anyone who says the economy is in the dumper! Clearly the fencing companies are so overrun with business they don’t need mine.

And so this brings me to my initial query. I was very focused on getting the shed moved. I did the actions required to get it done, and yet it didn’t work. I thought about it all the time and in the end result kind of way, visualizing it tucked into its new corner; our new garden growing in the sunny patch. I was persistent in calling people to get it done.

Then, when we decided we needed a fence, and prepped the yard, and called the fencers, and had the money ready. Again, nothing worked.

Of course, we did then end up finding this gorgeous acreage with a stunning house, and used the money we’d saved towards getting it. So it was fine in the end that none of that other stuff got done and we saved our money. But that’s not the point.

Or is it?

The universe and energy force field clearly picked up on a higher level of desire that was emanating from me. I truly did want that shed moved and I really really wanted a new wooden fence. And I could see it clearly in my mind and I took the steps toward my goal and I had no conflict whatsoever. I really did want those things at that house. What I didn’t realize at the time was that I didn’t want to be in that house. My heart of hearts was somewhere else, and it is always your highest energy vibration that triggers the law of attraction.

So when the law of attraction appears to not be working for you, start wondering why…who knows what you might discover…

Bought the farm…

No, I haven’t died, but I’m sure you’ve been wondering what happened to me. The list is long and varied, and I can’t wait to share it all with you!

First bit of news…we bought a farm…sort of. It’s not quite a farm yet, but it is big enough for something. We went for a drive one Sunday afternoon and happened upon an open house for this gorgeous little house on a stunning piece of land only minutes from where we live right now. By Tuesday we had bought it.

Huh? How did that happen…

The reaction from our friends and family was fairly universal.

YOU DID WHAT????

“But I didn’t know you were looking?” Say our rather taken aback parents.

Sheepishly we answer… we weren’t…not really…

Which I suppose isn’t exactly true. I had wanted a country property for years, my husband was warming to the idea but the timing wasn’t what we had envisioned (when is it ever??). On the Friday night we had talked about really finding out what sorts of country properties existed. We had a laundry list of desires – close to our end of the city, near water, decent house with not too much work to do, ability to grow our own food, and be the right price.

So when the law of attraction kicks in and gives you all this and more…what were we to do? Seriously, say no to 3 acres 5 minutes outside the city from where we live now, a house that has been completely remodelled in a way we like, has geo-thermal heating and cooling, on a river, with so much potential and a price that seemed likes there should be a catch? So the timing was a little off in terms of which year, but really the timing was great because we finished out the school year and have the whole summer to settle in.

We feel a bit like we’ve lost our minds, and that’s been reinforced by many people in our lives who think we’ve gone insane…

But…

As my dear friend Richard says…happy trumps sensible every time.

And happy we are.

Are you 3 feet from gold?

There’s a story about the California gold rush that tells of two brothers who sold all they had and went prospecting for gold. They discovered a vein of the shining ore, staked a claim, and proceeded to get down to the serious business of getting the gold ore out of the mine. All went well at first, but then a strange thing happened. The vein of gold ore disappeared! They had come to the end of the rainbow, and the pot of gold was no longer there. The brothers continued to pick away, but without success. Finally, they gave up in disgust.

They sold their equipment and claim rights for a few hundred dollars, and took the train back home. Now the man who bought the claim hired an engineer to examine the rock strata of the mine. The engineer advised him to continue digging in the same spot where the former owners had left off. And three feet deeper, the new owner struck gold.

A little more persistence and the two brothers would have been millionaires themselves. That’s gold in you too. Do you need to dig three feet farther?
